Why do water pumps need soft starters?
The water hammer effect is a very common phenomenon. When the water pump is running normally, if there is a sudden power outage or the valve is suddenly closed, the water flow will suddenly decrease. Due to the inertia of the water flow and pressure, the water flow shock wave generated will be like a hammer beating back and forth. The force generated can sometimes be so great that it can damage valves and pumps.
Using a soft starter, you can control the voltage and current at which the motor starts, allowing the motor to start and stop smoothly. Therefore, soft starters are widely used in the market, and the soft stop function of the soft starter can effectively avoid the water hammer effect produced when the water pump stops.
