How do I control a 3-phase induction motor using a VFD and a PLC?
A VFD is needed to achieve the speed control of motor, and the PLC only plays a role in controlling the VFD. There are two methods to achieve motor speed control as follows.
1. Use of inverter analog input 4-20mA or 0-10V to change the frequency, that is, the analog output of the plc to the inverter analog input, so as to control the plc to change the frequency.
2. Use RS485 communication interface. Nowadays, the majority of PLC and VFD support RS485, Ethernet or other communication methods. Thus, then through the PLC and inverter communication, it is possible to control the frequency of the inverter through the programming method to exchange data.
