Can we control an induction motor with PLC without a VFD?
A programmable logic controller (PLC) or programmable controller is an industrial computer control system specially designed for application in industrial environment. The PLC continuously monitors the status of input devices and controls the status of output devices according to custom programs. However, A variable frequency drive (VFD) is a kind of motor controller that drives AC induction motors by varying the frequency and voltage of their power supply. PLC has the function to switch on and off induction motors but cannot control their speed. When acceleration or deceleration of induction motor is desired, VFD is needed to control the speed.
