VFD Application in Improving Process Level and Product Quality
VFD (variable frequency drive) is widely used in various mechanical equipment control fields, such as transmission, lifting, extrusion, and machine tools. It can not only improve the technological level and product quality but also reduce the impact and noise of the equipment and prolong the service life of the equipment. After users use VFD to control speed, the mechanical system will be simplified, and the operation and control are more convenient. In addition, the AC drive can even change the original process specifications to improve the function of the entire equipment.
As we know, a setting machine is widely used in textiles and many industries, the temperature inside the machine is adjusted by changing the amount of hot air fed into it. The circulating fan is usually used to convey the hot air. Since the fan speed is constant, the amount of hot air sent can only be adjusted by the damper. If the damper fails to adjust or is improperly adjusted, the setting machine will be out of control. As a result, the quality of the finished product will be affected. When the circulating fan starts at high speed, there is very serious wear between the transmission belt and the bearing, making the transmission belt a consumable item.
After the operator adopts VFD to provide controlled acceleration/deceleration, the temperature regulation can be realized by the inverter automatically adjusting the speed of the fan, which solves the problem of product quality. Furthermore, the frequency converter can easily start the fan at low frequency and low speed and reduce the wear accordingly, which can also prolong the service life of the equipment and save energy by 40%.
- The first section of VFD (variable voltage control) not only converts the AC supply voltage into DC but also controls the required pulsating DC output voltage to maintain V/f constant ratio by using SCR/IGBT rectifier.
- The second section of VFD (DC-Link/DC Bus) consists of inductance and capacitors to convert pulsating DC into pure direct current. Here, inductance smooths the current, and the capacitor smooths the voltage.
- The third section of VFD (referred to as variable frequency control) not only converts DC voltage back into AC voltage but also controls the variable frequency to maintain the V/f ratio by using electronic devices such as SCR/IGBT transistors.

- The sum of the distance between the VFD and all connected motors should be less than 500m. Introduce an output load reactor to avoid motor failure due to voltage spikes, current surges, or harmonics.
- Install circuit breaker MCB or with extra protection MPCB between each motor and VFD.
- The voltage of each motor should be the same and ensure the VFD adoptable current is higher than the sum of all rated currents.
- Connect all motors with VFD output in parallel.
