A voltage regulator, also known as automatic voltage stabilizer, is a device that stabilizes the output voltage. The voltage stabilizer is composed of a voltage regulation circuit, a control circuit and a servo motor. When the input voltage or load changes, the control circuit performs sampling, comparison and amplification, then drives the servo motor to rotate, so that the position of the carbon brush of the voltage regulator changes and the coil turns ratio is automatically adjusted to maintain the stability of the output voltage.

Voltage Stabilizer Function

The working principle of the voltage regulator is to use the voltage regulation of the circuit and the control of the incoming current to control the circuit. A voltage stabilizer is a power supply circuit or power supply device that can automatically adjust the output voltage. Its function is to stabilize the power supply voltage that fluctuates greatly and does not meet the requirements of electrical equipment within its set value range, so that various circuits or electrical appliances can be stabilized. The equipment can work normally under the rated working voltage.

The original power regulators relied on the beating of relays to stabilize the voltage. When the grid voltage fluctuates, the automatic correction circuit of the power regulator is activated to make the internal relay operate, forces the output voltage to remain near the set value. Additionally, the advantage of this circuit is that the circuit is simple. However, the disadvantage is that the voltage regulation accuracy is not high and every time the relay jumps and shifts, it will cause an instantaneous interruption of the power supply and spark interference, which greatly interferes with the reading and writing work of computer equipment, and it is easy to cause error signals in the computer and in severe cases, the hard disk will be damaged.

High-quality and small voltage stabilizers mostly use the method of motor-driven carbon brush to stabilize the voltage. This voltage stabilizer has little interference to electrical equipment and has relatively high voltage stabilization accuracy.

Voltage Stabilizer Safety Device

The voltage stabilizer for home below 3 kVA adopts a fuse for overload or short circuit protection and the AC voltage stabilizer above 5 kVA uses a small circuit breaker or a small air switch for overload or short circuit protection. The fuse is blown or the automatic air circuit breaker is tripped when the voltage stabilizer is working, the voltage stabilizer should be powered off and users should check the load as well as the voltage stabilizer.

Voltage Stabilizer Overvoltage Protection

When the output voltage exceeds the protection value of the voltage stabilizer (the phase voltage protection value will be adjusted after manufacturing), the automatical protection of voltage stabilizer starts, it will reduce or cut off the output voltage, and the overvoltage indicator light will be on, users should immediately shut down and check grid voltage or voltage regulator. During working, if the output voltage of electronic voltage stabilizer vibrates, the reasons may be that the capacitive or inductive load is too heavy. Users can adjust the position of the switch on the circuit board in the chassis to eliminate the chattering phenomena (please turn off the load when adjusting). After manufacturing, its switch is in a normal state and users should not move it without authorization. If such a phenomenon cannot be eliminated, it may be caused by too large internal resistance of the input grid line or serious input waveform distortion. It is necessary to check the line diameter of the grid line and the quality of the connection points and solve them.

If the voltage stabilizer has been in the overvoltage protection state after starting, it is importan to check whether the voltage regulating potentiometer is adjusted normally and whether the grid voltage exceeds the normal working voltage regulation range of the voltage stabilizer, turn on the voltage regulator switch and then turn on the electrical equipment after the output voltage is stable.

Voltage Stabilizer Application

The automatic voltage stabilizer, including single phase voltage stabilizer and three phase voltage stabilizer, can be widely used in electronic computers, precision machine tools, computed tomography (CT), precision instruments, test devices, Elevator lighting, imported equipment and production lines and other places that require stable voltage of the power supply. It is also suitable for users at the end of the low-voltage distribution network where the power supply voltage is too low or too high, the fluctuation range is large and the electrical equipment with large load changes, especially suitable for all voltage-stabilized electricity places that require high grid waveforms. All in all, it is very important to use electrical stabilizers for high-tech and precision equipments that require strict electrical equipment and voltage.

Peaco Support provides 1 phase voltage stabilizer as well as 3 phase voltage stabilizer with wide 500VA-50kVA capacity and 110V/ 220V/ 230V/ 240V output voltage, including 5kVA stabilizer, 10 kVA stabilizer, etc.
